The Basics

Understanding what Progressive Leasing is
What is Progressive Leasing?

Progressive Leasing is a lease-to-own financing company that lets you take home items from over 30,000 partner retailers with no credit check. You make small payments over time and can own the item outright at the end of your lease — or sooner using the 90-day early purchase option.

Is Progressive Leasing a loan?

No. Progressive Leasing is a lease-to-own agreement, not a loan. You're leasing the item with an option to purchase it. This is why they don't require a traditional credit check — you're not borrowing money.

Who owns Progressive Leasing?

Progressive Leasing is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PROG Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: PRG), a publicly traded company headquartered in Draper, Utah. This site is an independent guide and is not owned by or affiliated with them.

How is Progressive Leasing different from Affirm or Klarna?

Affirm and Klarna are BNPL (Buy Now Pay Later) services that offer loans or installment splits and typically require credit checks. Progressive Leasing is a lease-to-own agreement with no credit check required, but total cost is generally higher unless you use the 90-day early purchase option.

Is Progressive Leasing legit?

Yes. Progressive Leasing has been in business since 1999 and has served over 10 million customers. They're regulated as a lease-to-own provider in each state where they operate. Read their terms carefully — the total cost of a lease is higher than the retail price unless you use the 90-day payoff.

How long has Progressive Leasing been around?

Progressive Leasing was founded in 1999 and has been one of the largest lease-to-own providers in the US for over 25 years.

Eligibility & Requirements

Who qualifies and what you need
Do I need good credit to apply?

No traditional FICO credit score is required. Progressive Leasing uses a soft inquiry that doesn't affect your credit and evaluates your income, banking history, and public records instead.

What's the minimum age to apply?

18 in most states. Some jurisdictions like Alabama and Nebraska require you to be 21. Check your state's rules on the application page.

What income do I need?

There's no specific minimum, but your income must comfortably cover the payment schedule. Progressive Leasing evaluates income from employment, self-employment, Social Security, SSI, VA benefits, and retirement pensions.

Do I need a checking account?

Yes. You need an active US checking account open for at least 90 days with regular deposits. Savings-only accounts and prepaid cards don't qualify — payments are drafted via ACH.

Do I need to be a US citizen?

No, but you must be a legal US resident with a valid SSN or ITIN, US residential address, and US phone number. Progressive Leasing operates in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

Can I apply if I've filed for bankruptcy?

Possibly. Progressive Leasing considers your current income and banking picture more than past credit issues. Recent bankruptcy (within 6 months) may still result in a decline, but older filings generally don't disqualify you.

Why was I declined?

Common reasons include insufficient income, banking issues (frequent overdrafts, recent account opening), identity verification problems, or existing outstanding Progressive Leasing agreements. You can reapply after 30 days once the issue is resolved.

The Application

Applying and getting approved
How long does the application take?

About 3–5 minutes to complete the form and roughly 60 seconds to receive your decision. Most applicants go from opening the form to walking out with their item the same day.

What information do I need to apply?

Personal info (name, DOB, SSN or ITIN, address, phone, email), employment info (employer, monthly income), and banking info (routing and account numbers). Have these ready before you start.

Will applying hurt my credit?

No. Progressive Leasing performs a soft inquiry that doesn't affect your FICO score or appear on your credit report.

Can I apply on my phone?

Yes. The application is fully mobile-responsive. You can complete it on any device — phone, tablet, or desktop.

How much will I be approved for?

Approval amounts typically range from $200 to $5,000. Your exact limit depends on your income, banking history, and state of residence. The amount shows immediately after your decision.

Can I apply for more than one item?

Yes. You can have multiple active Progressive Leasing agreements at once, as long as your combined obligations stay within their underwriting limits. Each new application is evaluated against your current leases.

Payments & Costs

What you pay and when
How much do payments cost?

Depends on your item price and payment schedule. As a rough guide: a $1,000 item on the standard 12-month lease is about $165/month, $78 bi-weekly, or $39/week. See our Payments page for detailed examples.

What is the 90-day early purchase option?

If you pay the cash price plus your initial payment within 90 days of signing your lease, you own the item outright — with no additional cost above the retail price. This is the most affordable way to use Progressive Leasing.

Can I choose weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly payments?

Yes. All three schedules are available. Pick the one that matches how you get paid — most shoppers choose bi-weekly.

Are payments automatic?

Yes. Payments are automatically drafted via ACH from your linked checking account on your chosen schedule. You'll get reminder emails a few days before each draft.

Can I pay early to save money?

Yes. Days 1–90: pay the cash price and own it (same as buying with cash). Days 91+: buyout amount is discounted and decreases each month. Check your online account for the current buyout price.

What if I miss a payment?

Call Progressive Leasing customer service before your payment date if you know it will bounce. They can often reschedule. A returned payment usually triggers a fee (varies by state) and Progressive Leasing may retry the payment.

Is there interest?

No. Progressive Leasing is a lease, not a loan, so there's no interest. Instead, the difference between the cash price and total lease cost is called the "cost of leasing" and is disclosed upfront in your agreement.

Can I pay with a credit card?

ACH from your linked checking account is the default. Some one-off payments can be made by debit card through your online account. Credit cards and personal checks are generally not accepted for scheduled payments.

Shopping & Stores

Where and how to shop
Where can I shop with Progressive Leasing?

At over 30,000 partner retailers across the US and Puerto Rico. Categories include furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, tires and wheels, jewelry, mobile phones, and eyewear. See our Stores page for the full breakdown.

How do I know if a store accepts Progressive Leasing?

Look for the Progressive Leasing logo at checkout (in-store or online), or ask the sales staff. Most partner stores prominently display "Progressive Leasing accepted" signage near the register.

Can I shop online?

Yes. Choose "Progressive Leasing" or "Lease-to-Own" at online checkout and enter your approval details. Not every partner offers online checkout, so check each store's website.

What can I buy?

Furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, tires, wheels, jewelry, mobile phones, eyewear, and (at some retailers) auto repairs and pet items. The item's cash price must fit within your approval amount.

Can I use my approval at multiple stores?

Each approval is generally tied to a single lease agreement. Once you use it for a purchase, you'd need to reapply for a new approval to shop at another store.

Do I have to buy right away after being approved?

Approvals are typically valid for 60–90 days from the date of decision. After that, you'd need to reapply if you haven't used it.

Can I combine Progressive Leasing with store sales or coupons?

Yes, most of the time. Progressive Leasing applies to the item's final cash price after discounts, so store sales, coupons, and clearance prices all work in your favor.

Ownership & Returns

The endgame — owning your item
When do I own the item?

Three ways: (1) pay within 90 days for the 90-day early purchase, (2) reach the end of your 12-month standard lease, or (3) exercise an early buyout after day 90 at a discounted price.

Can I return the item?

Yes. Because Progressive Leasing is a lease-to-own agreement — not a loan — you can return the merchandise at any time to end the lease with no long-term obligation. The retailer's return policy may also apply.

What if the item is damaged or defective?

Manufacturer warranties still apply. If the item is defective, work with the retailer to exchange or repair. Progressive Leasing will typically continue the lease with the replacement item under the same terms.

Do I need insurance on the item?

Not required by Progressive Leasing, but you're responsible for the item's condition during the lease. Consider adding it to your renter's or homeowner's insurance if it's expensive.

Will Progressive Leasing report to credit bureaus?

Progressive Leasing does not typically report to the three major credit bureaus in the same way as a traditional lender. Timely payments won't automatically build your FICO score. However, this also means missed payments won't automatically damage your credit report.

What happens at the end of the standard lease?

If you've made all payments through the 12-month lease term, ownership transfers to you automatically. You'll receive a confirmation from Progressive Leasing, and the item is yours to keep.
